Director Identification Numbers

A director identifier number (director ID) is a unique 15-digit identifier required by anyone who is director of an Australian Company or registered foreign company in Australia.  DirectorIDs assist the Australian Government in preventing the use of false or fraudulent director identities.

If you first became a director before the 31st of October 2021 you must apply for a director ID by the 30th of November 2022.  If you became a director between 1st November 2021 and 4th April 2022 then you must have applied within twenty eight days of your appointment. If you are  intending to become a director from the 5th April 2022 then you now must apply before you are appointed.

Whilst we cannot make an application for you, we can assist you with the process.

To summarise you will need the following before applying for your director ID:-

  • Set up a myGovID, this process requires at least two Australian identity documents such as a driver’s licence, a passport, a birth certificate or a medicare card;
  • Ensure that you have your Tax File Number;
  • Residential Address;  &
  • Two documents to verify your identity such as a Notice of Assessment issued by the Australian Taxation Office, current bank account details or a recent dividend statement.
